ASTRA 2F – A new digital TV platform for West Africa
SES, in partnership with service provider Computer Warehouse Group (CWG), launched a new technical platform for West Africa earlier this month known as ASTRA 2F. To allow both SES and CWG spokespeople to present the possibilities of this new platform and the opportunities it brings for the region, a Broadcast Summit facilitated by SES was held in Lagos at Hotel Intercontinental on the 6th of August 2014.
This independent and neutral TV platform in Nigeria will be the country’s first free- to-air (FTA) DTH digital TV platform and will provide an opportunity for broadcasters to reach millions of satellite homes in West Africa pointing their dishes to 28.2 degrees East, and to quicken the pace of digital migration.
The platform will allow broadcasters to transmit their content via satellite allowing for better picture quality and 100% coverage - even to the most remote areas in West Africa. Additionally, the long-term partnership with CWG will open up new possibilities for local and international broadcasters to reach audiences in this part of Africa quickly and cost- effectively.
