Navigation

Positioning you for success

Navigation system infrastructure and services

Navigation systems underpin transformative innovations like smart cities, big data, next-generation logistics, and the Internet of Things.

With over a decade of experience providing satellite navigation infrastructure and services, SES is a trusted partner for hosted payloads, and our global network delivers PNT (Positioning, Navigation and Timing) downstream applications.

We support navigation solutions around the globe, from operations support and mission-critical networks to tracking, telemetry and ground stations.

How we help

Guaranteed-performance

Global coverage

MEO-enabled satellite navigation offers global coverage. EGNOS enables enhanced Navigation signals (GPS, Galileo) regionally (over Europe) via hosted payloads on GEO satellites.

High security

Cybersecurity expertise and services underpin SES's activities for EGNOS and Galileo.

Resilience and redundancy

SES's satellite network ensures that the Galileo ground stations are operational and available, even in the event of primary network disruption.

Proven technology

In-orbit testing to ensure that Galileo satellites are operational and to detect any anomaly that could occur during their lifetime.

In space

We supply two tailor-made commercial payloads for EGNOS, which provide European navigation services alongside the American GPS and the Russian-led GLONASS systems. Both payloads operate in L-band to help verify, improve and report on the reliability and accuracy of positioning signals in Europe.

On the ground

SES hosts and maintains two NLES (Navigation Landing Earth Stations), transmitting the EGNOS messages to the two GEO satellites hosting the payloads which broadcast the Signal-in-Space to the users.

VSAT and in-orbit testing
We provide a highly redundant and secure VSAT network for the Galileo Data Dissemination Network (GDDN), including the design and supply of the ground segment, satellite capacity and lifecycle support.

To verify the performance of the Galileo satellites' payloads, SES provides In Orbit Test (IOT) activities to the Galileo Service Operator (SpaceOpal), including:

  • Design and supply of IOT system (a 20m full motion antenna which can track the Galileo satellites, measuring radio frequency and baseband parameters for the navigation L-band downlink and the C-band uplink).
  • Provision of IOT services for the Galileo satellite fleet
  • Maintenance and operations of the related ground stations
