Performance Above All
What happened the last time your satellite service let you down? What was the fallout, and how long did it take to fix?
When connectivity is critical, ‘best effort’ is not enough. Delays and outages risk reputation, operations, and even safety. That is why we designed O3b mPOWER – our next-generation MEO constellation – to deliver ironclad performance.
This is not marketing talk. Our service level agreement is not a claim but a guarantee, delivering industry-beating throughput, latency, availability and flexibility. It is the only choice when downtime is not optional.
The next leap forward
The world's first commercial MEO constellation becomes operational
The launch of O3b, the world’s first commercial NGSO satellite constellation, blazes the trail for today’s satellite connectivity.
This next-generation satellite network was designed to bring connectivity to the “other three billion” - those who lack consistent, reliable access to communications systems.
For the first time, telcos connect entire island nations, remote industries access digital tools and governments conduct vital operations to the harshest terrains.
MEO connectivity makes a host of transformative technology available to sectors such as mining, aviation and cruise.
Development begins on the world’s most technically advanced satellite system
Following the sell-out success of O3b, SES works with Boeing to develop the world’s most technologically advanced satellite system, O3b mPOWER.
The new constellation is to provide industry-leading throughput, latency, availability and flexibility for services where downtime is not an option.
O3b mPOWER features fully shapeable and steerable spot beams that enable flexible forward and return path throughput, with the unprecedented ability to land traffic anywhere.
O3b's success drives sign-up for O3b mPOWER
In a testament to O3b, SES customers sign up for O3b mPOWER three years ahead of launch. Carnival Corporation will bring digital to the cruise experience, while Orange will support growing demand for connectivity in Africa.
Expanding on its existing partnership with Microsoft, SES begins construction of gateways at or near Azure Data Centres. The move means Microsoft customers anywhere in the world are only one hop away from their cloud services.
SES becomes Amazon Web Services’ first Direct Connect satellite partner
Amazon Web Services certifies SES as a Direct Connect Delivery Partner, providing its customers with dedicated, secure connectivity to their cloud workloads from anywhere.
The partnership is a significant boost to both enterprises and government users who require reliable bandwidth while working in remote locations.
The first O3b mPOWER satellites launch
On a clear Florida morning, crowds watch the first two O3b mPOWER satellites launch from Cape Canaveral.
The launch is a critical moment in a journey that will impact millions of lives in the world’s unconnected areas.
O3b mPOWER rolls out on the ground
Vodafone rolls out the first mPOWER ground antennae in the Cook Islands. Terminals are designed to be installed by local SES-accredited teams in just one day.
SES also installs a government-owned gateway on the main island of Rarotonga, giving the Cook Islands' government sovereign control of its data.
O3b mPOWER prepares for go live
Throughout 2023, the remaining satellites will join the O3b mPOWER constellation for thorough testing before the service launches.
The partnerships will alter lives: IMS will connect out-of-reach Columbian Communities, Orange will close the digital divide in Africa, and Jio will deliver the next generation of affordable broadband services in India.
Five more satellites launch
To meet demand for O3b mPOWER, SES will add five satellites to the network to ensure it continues to meet the ever-expanding requirements of a connected world.
The constellation is complete, but innovation never stops, with SES already working to deliver the next industry-changing technology.
When connectivity is non-negotiable
Does your provider deliver the three essentials of satellite performance?
Multiple gigabits per second.
Contention should not limit ambition. O3b mPOWER guarantees the highest throughput per terminal on the market. Unlike others, SES gives you the option of uncontended bandwidth so you can confidently scale your systems at any time.
150 milliseconds of satellite latency over large areas.
Know what you are getting. MEO’s wide field of view means traffic reaches O3b mPOWER in one reliable hop, providing consistency for latency-sensitive cloud services. Such predictability is impossible for erratic, multi-hop LEO journeys, which suffer jitter and packet loss.
Route and re-route your bandwidth for maximum efficiency.
O3b mPOWER puts you in control of your bandwidth. Land traffic at one of our managed gateways or a bespoke private location. Re-balance forward and return paths and port capacity between locations as your needs change.
