As this year’s world cup broke all time broadcast records and Germany walked away with the revered trophy here’s looking back at some of the fascinating moments of the tournament and how SES ensured live transmission to millions of homes worldwide.

Here’s how SES enabled broadcasters to achieve seamless coverage

Watch the Euronews video feature on our preparations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the necessary steps that were taken to ensure that millions of households receive live broadcast of all the matches as they take place.

2014, the year of first Ultra HD transmissions

The World Cup, just like the Sochi Winter Olympics earlier this year, provided the perfect opportunity for Ultra HD broadcasts and testing.

Oi, in partnership with SporTV, broadcasted three matches played at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro in Ultra HD via our SES-6 satellite. The match on 28 June marked the first live Ultra HD transmission in Brazil. Eurovision – the European Broadcasting Union's (EBU) distributor of premium sports and news events – also broadcasted the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Ultra HD and HD via NSS-806, NSS-7 and SES-6.

SES’ outstanding Occasional Use team
