The Challenge: Limited Connectivity Restricting Access to Education and Opportunity
Communities in South Sudan and Uganda face severe barriers to education due to conflict, displacement, and a lack of reliable connectivity infrastructure. In these regions, traditional networks are often insufficient or compromised, leaving young people without access to online resources, digital learning platforms, or opportunities to build the skills needed for future employment and leadership. As a result, vulnerable youth—many of whom have been affected by violence or instability—are cut off from pathways that could support long‑term peacebuilding and economic development.
The Solution: Delivering Reliable Satellite Connectivity to Power Education and Peacebuilding
To close this gap, SES partnered with the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI) to deliver high‑speed satellite-powered internet to ten Community Learning Centers across South Sudan and Uganda. Over a three‑year partnership, SES is providing equipment, managed connectivity services, installation, and ongoing technical support, enabling online education, digital literacy training, virtual exchange programs, and entrepreneurship courses for thousands of young people.
This reliable connectivity enhances WPDI’s existing peacebuilding and leadership curriculum, giving youth the tools to rebuild their futures and become agents of positive change in their communities. In recognition of its meaningful social impact, the partnership was honored with the Changing Lives Award at the 2025 Africa Tech Festival, celebrating initiatives that demonstrably improve lives across the continent.
