Cignal, the leading DTH service provider in the Philippines, successfully expanded its HD channel offering to address the growing appetite for high quality television programming in the country. First launched in 2009, the Cignal HD lineup now carries a bundle of the most popular HD channels that cover a wide range of interests, including HBO HD, ESPN HD, Food Network HD, NBA Premium HD, National Geographic HD to History HD.
Fully owned and operated by Philippine-based MediaScape, Cignal currently serves around 400,000 subscribers. The satellite service provided by SES is helping Cignal meet the increased demands of the Filipino consumers as early adaptors of digital HDTV content.
“The Filipino consumers have changed their perception of satellite TV greatly over the years,” said Annie Naval, MediaScape’s Managing Director, Sales & Marketing. “Negative perceptions of being expensive and cumbersome have been replaced with perception of quality and value for money.” In addition, the partnership between SES and Cignal has enabled the DTH service provider to address the trend of migration from analogue to digital television that is taking shape in the Philippines. Naval continued: “It is important that the service provides just the right value to them, with a balance between the benefits and cost. We believe consumers look for quality of reception, the right mix of channels, affordability and good customer service. It is really all about the experience.”
