  • SES Successful Bidder In Protostar 2 Auction

    Luxembourg – December 17th, 2009 - Global satellite operator SES S.A. (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG) announces that its SES Satellite Leasing business unit in the Isle of Man was selected as the successful bidder in yesterday’s public auction for the Protostar 2 satellite with a USD 185 million, all cash offer. Upon conclusion of the transaction, Protostar 2 will be integrated into the global satellite fleet of SES WORLD SKIES to provide incremental capacity over Asia.

  • DIGITAL+ Launches Five Additional HD Channels On ASTRA

    Luxembourg, 16 December 2009 – SES ASTRA, an SES company (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG), announced today that the Spanish pay-TV operator Digital+ has launched five additional HD channels on ASTRA. Including these new channels, SES ASTRA now broadcasts more than 100 HD channels via its satellite system.   • SES ASTRA And Neterra Provide Contribution Services To Broadcasters In Bulgaria And The Balkan Region

    Luxembourg, 11 December 2009 – SES ASTRA, an SES company (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG), announced today that it has entered into a partnership with Bulgarian telecom operator Neterra to offer contribution services to broadcasters in Bulgaria and the Balkan region. Under the terms of the agreement, Neterra will use capacity on SES ASTRA’s 31.5 degrees East orbital position to provide broadcasters with an optimised solution to deliver their content to cable and terrestrial head-ends in the region. 31.5 degrees East is SES ASTRA’s latest orbital position targeting the Eastern European market. The services will be uplinked from Neterra’s teleport in Sofia, Bulgaria, and include multiplexing, encoding and encryption of the signal. The first broadcaster to use the service is the Bulgarian channel TV 7.

  • ORF Launches Second HD Channel On ASTRA

    Luxembourg, 3 December 2009 – SES ASTRA, an SES company (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG), announced today that the Austrian public broadcaster ORF will start broadcasting its second HD channel on ASTRA. The launch of ORF2 HD on SES ASTRA’s 19.2 degrees East orbital position is scheduled for December 5, and follows the successful roll-out of ORF1 HD in June 2008. ORF will continue to broadcast both ORF1 and ORF2 also in standard definition.
