Thomas Wrede

VP, Reception Systems


Thomas Wrede is responsible for developing and implementing satellite reception products and solutions. Thomas joined SES in 1992 as a Senior Systems Engineer. He has been deeply involved in the development of digital satellite television, in-home signal distribution concepts, digital satellite radio, satellite return channel technology, Internet via satellite and High Definition Television. Most recently Thomas is managing SES’ SAT>IP project (www.satip.info) and has taken responsibility for the technical aspects of the introduction of Ultra HD television services via satellite. Thomas represents SES in the DVB Commercial Module (www.dvb.org) and also chairs a Technology- and Innovation Forum at the German Association of Commercial Broadcasters and Audiovisual Services (www.vprt.de)

Karim Michel Sabbagh



Mr. Sabbagh is the President & CEO of SES, and the Chairman of the Executive Committee. He is also the Chairman of SES ASTRA, and is a member of the Board of Directors as well as the Risk and Audit Committee of O3b. Additionally, he is a member of the Yahlive Board of Directors. He served on the Board of Directors of SES from April 2011 until August 2013 and was a member of the Audit and Risk Committee of SES for the same period. Mr Sabbagh is a visiting professor at Écoles des Ponts et Chaussées ParisTech (Grandes Écoles) in France.

Edgar Milic

Edgar leads the Strategic Business Innovation team that is focused on strategy implementation and preparing for the future of our business. He led the strategic assessment of SES’s alternatives in HTS which has evolved into current strategy. Before joining SES, Edgar held management and technical roles on the supply side of the Aerospace industrial value chain, being Commercial Director at TCP Sistemas e Ingenieria and Business and Project Manager at GMV. He has as well contributed to Italian Air Force missions as Second Lieutenant.

Nader Alagha

Senior Telecommunication Systems Engineer


European Space Agency


Nader Alagha is with the Technical Directorate at ESA Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) where he is leading several R&D projects related to the next generations of High Throughput Satellite Systems, machine-to-machine communications via satellite as well as VHF maritime communications. He has been contributing to the DVB and ITU technical working groups. He is also an executive committee member of the IEEE Benelux Chapter on Communications and Vehicular Technology and a technical co-chair of Wireless Communications Symposium in IEEE Globecom 2016.

Domenico Mignolo

European Space Agency

In 2002 he has joined the European Space Agency, Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), Noordwijk, (The Netherlands) where he is now Head of Ground and User Segment technologies and products Section in the Telecommunication and Integrated Application Directorate. In his career at ESA, he has been technical officer of several Satellite system, ground and user segment studies and development projects. He also contributed to the initiation of new
programmes and he is author of several international publications in the field of Satcom system and communication protocols.

Jo De Loor

Market Director HTS and Enterprise


Currently Jo holds the position of Market Director for Multiservice, HTS and Enterprise at Newtec. Next to developing the HTS and enterprise markets and assisting to large project sales, he shares his expertise in broadband and VSAT
within the Newtec organization. Jo has almost 20 years of experience in the industry. In 2005 he became systems architect for Newtec’s DVB-RCS system and further evolved to product manager and later Product Line Director of the Sat3Play Broadband Platform.

Anthony Lilley

Anthony Lilley is a media producer, businessman and technology expert who has worked on many of the cutting edge developments in television, live events and broader business. Alain has over 17 years’ experience in software development, integration & architecture for TV related products at Bouygues Telecom, NDS and CANAL+ TECHNOLOGIES. Hervé Creff

Hervé serves as VP Marketing of iWedia, a leading provider of software solutions for TV devices to service operators and Consumer Electronics manufacturer. Hervé is responsible for the management of iWedia’s product portfolio which includes solutions for Android TV devices that have been successfully deployed. Hervé has over 20 years’ product marketing experience in the digital television field. Before joining iWedia, he held senior management positions at middleware provider CANAL+ TECHNOLOGIES and at engineering services provider Altran. Hervé was educated at Rennes University in France where he graduated in computer science.

Richard Salmon

Lead Research Engineer


Richard Salmon has a deep technical understanding of the entire image chain from the camera, though compression, to the viewer’s impression of the displayed image. He inspired and led work on higher frame rates, culminating in very successful demonstrations at IBC in 2008 and 2013. He chairs the EBU Displays group, and is active in SMPTE and the UK Digital TV Group. He is an Honorary Fellow of the BKSTS.

Jérôme Viéron

Jérôme Viéron is an active contributor to standardization efforts led by ISO and ITU-T groups. He was very active to the H264/MPEG-4 SVC standardization process. He is in charge of French and European collaborative R&D projects and works on new generation video coding technologies. He is an active contributor to the standardization process of HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) and is implied in the 4EVER (for Enhanced Video ExpeRience) consortium.

Hansgeorg Lichte

Hansgeorg holds two degrees in Media and Marketing Communication and is an expert in Broadcasting Applications and beyond. He developed Digital Playout Systems and worked for a pan-European sports channel. Later he was consulting national and regional networks until he launched his own local TV channel which he sold later. In the last years he worked on various DVB projects in contribution, distribution and ad-insertion, including Business Development for T-21 in Europe.

Martyn Lee is a Senior Technologist at Sky, a business serving over 20 million customers in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Italy with a portfolio of services including television, telephone and broadband. After over 20 years in design and operational management roles in the consumer electronics and communications industries, Martyn joined Sky just prior to the launch of digital television to manage technical relationships with other television distribution platforms and has undertaken various roles with Sky since then. Martyn currently represents Sky at various spectrum fora and sits on several standards and industry bodies. He holds an MEng (Honours) from the Open University and an Executive MBA from the University of Hertfordshire.

Alexander Wass

Gil Laifer

Jens Krause

Jens Krause received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in 1987 and the Ph.D. degree in 1993, both in electrical engineering from Universität Karlsruhe, Germany. He has been a scientific employee at the University of Karlsruhe and a R&D engineer at manufacturer Hirschmann in Germany. Since 1996 he works at the satellite operator SES in Luxembourg, with the current position in Systems Engineering. He represents SES in standardization organizations.

Tom is SES’s senior manager Video & IP technology and brings with him close to 25 years of experience in both video and IP technologies. After graduating from UCL and Imperial College London, Tom joined Philips Corporate Research in Eindhoven to work on first MPEG implementations. At SES Tom has been involved in many broadcast related systems projects and has been a key driver for SES ASTRA activities linked to improvements in television. Tom’s core interests are in the area of future broadcasting technologies and the convergence of television and networking. Tom represents SES in several internal standardisation organisations.
